Application of varnish
Quality and durability of the boat
The painting phase has two essential roles: it protects the boat and enhances its look.
The purpose of this operation is to protect the structure from the electrolytic action resulting from the combination of different materials, and to protect the hull from damages caused by the marine fauna.
Moreover, the application of varnish affects both the quality and durability of the boat.
Marine antifouling action
Animal and vegetable microorganisms living in the sea water, the so-called plankton, may adhere to immersed surfaces with consequential reduction in speed and damages to the hull.
Antifouling coatings release some substances over time that prevent the expansion of plankton.
Anti osmosis treatment
As time goes on, the resistance and the permeability of a fiberglass boat’s hull can go through a degenerative process.
Over time, a fiberglass product absorbs humidity, especially those who are in a marine environment.
A proper anti osmosis treatment removes the humidity and preserves the boat.
Decorative varnish
A boat can also be painted for aesthetic purposes. An aluminium surface is likely to oxidise and to turn to a greyish colour with some white spots, similar to salt encrustation. Even though this layer does not cause any damage, it ruins the features and the design of the yacht.
Gelcoat varnish
A boat exposed to the sun, the wind and the water loses the original brilliance of the colours of the hull.
That’s why a painting treatment, called Gelcoat, is required. Thanks to this operation it is possible to revitalize the colours of a boat that has lost its sheen.
The Gelcoat is a material based on resin and it is the very outer layer of most fiberglass products.
In addition to revitalizing colours, the gelcoat protectsthe layers of laminates, composed by fiber and resin, from atmospheric and marineagents and from the salt water.
